What We Do

Pre-cut Patterns provides art services and made-to-order glass etching stencils. If you need sandblast resist stencils, or glass etching stencils for use with etching creme, browse this page! The product we deliver to you is the vinyl stencil, but the service we provide is made-to-order artwork for your etched glass project. We will create the layout that fits the specifications of your etched glass project with careful attention to detail. You may choose art from our catalogs of stock designs, or describe to us the needs for custom art. The process can save you a great deal of time, because we create the art, scale the layout as needed, and cut the final stencil. You only need to apply the stencil to the glass, weed out the areas to be etched, and then etch the image with your technique.

Specifics

What is the product? Custom vinyl sandblast stencils are used to create frosted glass, shaded or carved glass images into. Pre-cut Patterns makes the stencils, which are available in varieties of thickness, as a service for sandblasted glass artists. The image for the stencil is created with computer graphics, and the resist material is cut with a computer-controlled plotter. The vinyl remains adhered to a backer paper, and a transparent transfer sheet is applied to the top surface of the vinyl to hold the stencil shapes together. Remove the top two layers from the backer and apply to the glass. Remove the transfer sheet, weed out the areas of the stencil to be etched, and the project is ready for imagining with the technique you use. After use, the stencil’s removable adhesive releases easily and is discarded.

Custom Work

If your project requires completely original artwork, adapted from an idea or a concept inspired by some other visual form, we can help. Company logos, text layouts, matching an etched design to replace damaged glass: These are all parameters that we respond to every week. Our job is to create the stencil that you apply to the glass. Our service saves time for the glass etching artist, because we serve as an assistant to the art department. We can work from a hand drawing, a jpg file, or a vector image. The vinyl stencil is a single use format, which carries tight details. Available in 4mil, 8mil, 10 mil and 32 mil thickness. We supply materials that match etching and carving techniques. The 4mil material works very well with etching creams, such as Armor Etch, a product marketed by Etchworld and other suppliers. All resists have removable adhesive, which holds for the duration of the project, then releases easily.

Corporate Work

How do I specify the artwork? There are thousands of etched glass images in our database of stock designs. You may select images, and then specify the size you want the images to be. Or, you may give us instructions to clip and paste from different images, add text, and create your own stock design. Tell us the glass size and we will create a layout. If you need custom art, you may provide the instructions for the image that you need. We can work from computer files, camera-ready art or a sketch on a napkin and create a new image for you. We will create an image and a stencil-ready image for you. After that, it is only a matter of making the stencil to the size you need.
